How to create attributes in magento?
As we know that magento uses EAV model, so it is very easy to manage the attributes from backend. Suppose that you have to make some products as featured products then you have to create an attribute to mark it as a featured product from backend. Here are the steps given with the visual suggestions that help you to create an attribute from backend.
Step 1: First of all login your magento admin panel then go to Catalog-> Attributes ->Manage Attributes
Here you will get a list of default attributes. On right side above the list of attributes you will see the button “Add New Attribute”. Click this button. Now you will see a form. Here you have to fill up properties and Labels. Create an attribute ‘featured’ with Yes/No property from Catalog Input Type for Store Owner dropdown and Save Attribute.
Step 2: Now go to Catalog-> Attributes ->Manage Attribute Sets
Click the button “Add New Set”. You will see a set of group attributes and unassigned Add your unassigned attribute to group attribute by using drag and drop. Now save the attribute set.
Step 3: Go to Catalog-> Manage Products and Click button “Add New Product”. You will see the field in the group where you have set it in Manage Attribute Set section. Suppose you have dropped the ‘featured’ attribute under General information. Then at the add product from it would be displaying under General Information tab.
Using the above set attribute name you can filter and display the product as featured product.
Hope it will work for you, thanks!
